Georginio Wijnaldum is a Dutch footballer of Surinamese heritage. He was born on 11 November 1990 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
In his childhood Georginio never showed interest in football: he never played with a ball outside or watched football on TV. He dreamed to become a gymnast or acrobat. However, Wijnaldum's plans changed after his nephew asked him to come with him to Dutch football club Sparta for try-outs. Based on the results of the try-outs, Georginio was invited to the football academy.
In 2007, as a part of FC Feyenoord, Georginio Wijnaldum made his official debut during the game against Groningen. This made Wijnaldum the youngest player ever to play in Feyenoord’s first eleven (he was just 16) in the Eredivisie league. On 2 December 2007, a young footballer scored his first goal for Feyenoord during the game against Heracles.
On 16 September 2008, Wijnaldum played in the UEFA Cup match for the first time: he was named in the starting line-up in the match against the Swedish team Kalmar. On 2 October 2008, Georginio scored his first goal in the UEFA Cup match during the return game against Kalmar and helped the Rotterdam team to get in the group stage of the UEFA Cup.
On 6 March 2009, the football player renewed his contract with Feyenoord, according to which he was to stay in the Rotterdam team until summer 2012. On 27 February 2011, Wijnaldum helped Feyenoord to inflict a defeat upon FC Groningen (5:1), scoring a poker – four goals in one game. In total, in the season 2010-2011 Wijnaldum took part in 34 games and scored 14 goals.
On 29 June 2011, the technical director of Feyenoord announced Georginio Wijnaldum transfer to PSV Eindhoven for five million euro.
On 11 July 2015, Georginio left the Eredivisie and joined the English Football League – the dream of all professional football players. He signed a contract with Newcastle United for a transfer fee of £27 million.
Wijnaldum scored his first goal for Newcastle United during the game against Southampton on 9 August 2015. On 18 October 2015, the player scored his first poker in English League in the game against Norwich City. All in all, in the season 2015-2016 Georginio played 38 games and scored 11 goals for the Magpies. Unfortunately, it didn’t help the club to stay in the Premier League and the team was relegated.
On 22 July 2016, Georginio Wijnaldum joined Liverpool on a five-year contract for £25 million.
